In a few months in the future, the 32 players who have qualified for the 2022 World Cup Final will find out their fate.
The competition will feature 32 teams divided into eight groups of four beginning November 21.
As of Monday morning, twenty countries have already qualified for the World Cup. Five African nations, two North American nations, and two European nations would be added to the field prior to the draw.
For the draw on Friday, the participants will be separated into four pots. The host country, Qatar, has a pot containing seven of FIFA’s best teams in it.
The remaining three titles will be determined by FIFA’s worldwide rankings. In Pot 4, the two intercontinental playoff champions will be paired as placeholders with the last UEFA club.
One team from each of the four pots will be assigned to one of the tournament’s eight groups following the World Cup draw.
As the top team in Group A, Qatar’s first-choice team will participate in the tournament’s opening match on November 21, 2022.
Belgium, Brazil, France, Argentina, England, and Spain will all be placed in Pot 1 according to their FIFA global rankings.
The Pot 1 field of eight teams will be complete if Portugal wins North Macedonia in the UEFA qualifying playoff.
If North Macedonia wins again, the United States, the Netherlands, Denmark, and Mexico will all be battling for the eighth and last position in Pot 1. Following its loss, Italy was able to schedule a meeting with Portugal for the next day.
The United States is expected to be put in Pot 2 alongside Mexico and a small number of European countries.
Non-European teams cannot be paired with teams from the same confederation in the competition. For example, a win against the top OFC team would prevent the US from facing Mexico, Canada, and the fourth-placed CONCACAF team.
Because of the continent’s participation, certain World Cup groups will have multiple European teams. No more than two teams from the same continent may compete in the same group at any given time.
Following the selection of the five African players and the two North American and European entrants, pots 2, 3, and 4 will be constructed.
The remaining three slots in the 32-team tournament will be determined by the champions of the CONCACAF, AFC, and CONMEBOL playoffs, as well as the last UEFA playoff match.
The European Football Association (UEFA) had to rearrange the country’s playoff tournament due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The match between Ukraine and Scotland has been postponed till June of this year. On June 14, whomever wins the match will play Wales in the World Cup qualifying round.
As Pot 4 placeholders, three teams will be included in the draw.
So, who do you think will be the winner of the Inter-continental playoff?
